“… There were others who were tortured, preferring to die rather than turn from their G-d to be free. They placed their hope in the resurrection and a better life. Some were mocked and their backs cut open with whips. Others were chained in dungeons. They were put to death by stoning; some were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground.”
Reading in Hebrews tonight and came across this bit in chapter 11. This chapter is known for faith… He calls us all to have faith in Him, as He wants us to relinquish control over our lives. How much fuller and more abundant are our lives in Him! Still here at the end of the chapter there is this. Death. Torture… Hope. I read this and shudder. It’s not just an old history book, this is real life. This is today. I’ve met people that have these various experiences… The world isn’t worthy of them. They counted the cost, but they place their love and faith in Him… And they have the most beautiful and vibrant hope.
As 2015 begins, I am reminded to count the cost. Reminded to place my faith, hope, and love in the One who created me… Reminded to follow Him.
